TSM vs Comics, a blog #2

I’m very late on a few reviews but here they are none the less.

American Vampire #1:  Two vampire stories in one book. One written in modern time by Scott Snyder and the other an origin type story set in the Wild West by Stephen King. Awesome art by Rafael Albuquerque.

Verdict: Buy!

Batman & Robin #10: After a boring story arc we begin the story arc of the return of Bruce Wayne.  Grayson starts to find clues hidden in Wayne Manor that Bruce has left from the past. It sounds far fetched but Grant Morrison makes it enjoyable and a fun read. Plus Andy Clark is as good as Quitely was on this title.

Verdict: Buy!

Siege #3:  All I can say about this book is, its completely badass!

Verdict: Buy! Immediately.

X23 #1 (one shot):  In my departure from comics a charater named X23 was spawned. She seems cool but I didn’t really know anything about her. This book clarified most of it in a cool and partly psychedelic way. It made me like the character and I can definitely see her potential more so now.

Verdict: Buy!

Well that’s its for now but four awesome books that were all buys this week. Check them out if you missed them.

TSM VS Comics, a blog (#1)

Uncanny X-Men #522: Kitty Pryde is back? Awesome read, great story and an interesting way to bring a long loved character back. This book also made me gain more respect for Magneto than I already had. Matt Fraction mixed with Wilce Portacio equals a good book.  My only thing is, Kitty Pryde is back, now what?

Verdict: Buy!

X-Men Origins: Nightcrawler: These origins comics are kinda redundant for comic fans but are awesome for us folks that were out of the game for so long or for newcomers. This is, as the title explains, the origin of Nightcrawler. The art by Cary Nord was iffy at first but quickly grew on me. Writer Adam Freeman made this story an in depth origin.  Fans of the character will definitely need to pick this up.

Verdict: Buy!

Breaking Into Comics the Marvel Way #1 & 2:  This two issues are basically new talent, writers and artists, given a chance to show off their skills. Interesting idea but not worth the price tag. Some artists/writers were good, others were not, so even with the good stories and good art something feel s like its missing. These comics are basically the prize in the cracker jack box you thought would be cool but weren’t.

Verdict: #1 Read. #2 Burn!

Haunt #6: This is a recap of the first five issues but through the eyes of Mirage which is Kirk’s lover, but that’s all it seems to be,  a recap. One of the main problems I have with this book, whoever is that since this one issue recaps five other issues it jumps around and gets confusing at times. Not a very good jumping on point at all. Greg Capullo’s art is cool and reminiscent of McFarlane’s but writer Robert Kirkman was a little disappointing in this.

Verdict: Read.
